Design, dimensions, controls

We are used to the fact that smartphones are increasingly non-separable, the case can not be opened. In the POP 4S, the back cover is easily removed, and there is a memory card slot inside, as well as two SIM card slots (nanoSIM / microSIM). The battery is made non-removable, so it will not be removed. Proceeding from this, the dismountable case can not be written in either positive or negative terms, let's consider it simply a design feature.

As usual, the model will be available in different colorings, including very bright ones, but by default it looks the same as in our review.

Externally, the latest Alcatel models remind me very much of Galaxy Note 5, there is a curvature of the back panel, the device is well in the hand, but it's not big, and not all, in the category of phabetts it's always one of the conventional censures (152x77x7.9 mm, weight 145 grams ).

The quality of plastic and decoration is excellent, but it's plastic, no metal. The side edge has an insert for metal, but analogues in this segment have either completely metal enclosures or metal frames, as in the Samsung J7 2016. This makes the POP 4S not so attractive for those who are eating into the details and want to get the maximum possible for their money.

At the top and bottom ends are microphones, the noise cancellation system works well. The microUSB connector is placed on the bottom end, and on the right side there is a paired volume control button, as well as the on / off button. Connector 3.5 mm - on the upper end. Assembly is excellent, which is typical for Alcatel.

In the physical button under the screen the fingerprint sensor is inscribed, it works for a touch. Impressions are recognized quickly, there is no difficulty with this.

Display

Based on the characteristics in front of us a typical IPS-display with a diagonal of 5.5 inches, FullHD-resolution and automatic brightness adjustment of the backlight. There are no features at the screen, but it should be noted that it is whitish, this is an average matrix, which causes bewilderment, in this class of devices many manufacturers put more expensive displays.

Again, without direct comparison, you will not see this difference, you will be comfortable. But this is clearly not the best display in this class of devices, it's normal. In the sun, the screen is easy to read, but there is no special technology to improve the picture, which is clearly visible when shooting at the camera. What you see, and what happens, varies greatly in color. As you already understood, I'm not happy with this display, it's average.

Battery

The device is able to work one full day at an average load, at a moderate one - 1.5 days, which does not look like a record, I write it off on a chipset. The capacity of the Li-Ion battery is 2960 mAh. The claimed working time in standby mode is up to 480 hours, in talk mode - up to 13 hours.
The time of continuous video playback is 7 hours.
  
The device has a built-in utility to limit power consumption (disables certain functions), it turns on by default when the 15% charge is reached. Also there was "Optimization of the battery", in fact, this is the restriction of background applications, you can add or remove them from the list, something similar we see on the flagship from Samsung.

The full battery charging time is about 80 minutes, the technology of Quick Charge is supported.

Memory, RAM, hardware platform

The device has 2 GB of RAM, built-in 16 GB (system and applications take about 5 GB), plus you can install memory cards up to 64 GB.

Chipset Mediatek MT6755M, 8-core (4 cores to 1.8 GHz, 4 cores to 1 GHz), graphics processor Mali T-860. The performance of this solution is average, as seen in synthetic tests. But in everyday life, in the menu you do not notice, everything works quite quickly.

Camera

The front camera has a flash for Selfie, its resolution is 5 megapixels. Standard for the latest generations of devices there are improvements to the skin, oval face and the like small things. They can be disabled. The quality of the photos is good.

The main camera has a phase autofocus, resolution - 13 megapixels. The quality of the images is not ideal, but very good for the device of this level. But somehow it is impossible to single out the camera, there is a ridiculous function when when you shoot you hear a bleating, the horns of a locomotive and so you inform that you took a picture. For children and teenagers, otherwise it is not needed. See examples of pictures and photos below.

Communication capabilities

The model supports 4G (LTE FDD 3/7/8/20), there is also NFC, Wi-Fi, BT 4.2, USB & BT Modem Tethering - in a word, a standard set of technologies, without any features.

Software Features

Alcatel is not trying to change the standard Android, but still bring their changes, including Android 6. In the main menu, icons have a circle, and when you click a mini-window opens. Want to open the application entirely - click on the button again.

The phone has FM radio, a set of functions is typical. Dictaphone, calculator, compass, as well as built-in memory manager, AVG antivirus.

The role of the music application is chosen "Mix", it can not only listen to music, but also mix it, impose different effects, it is enough to turn the device in a horizontal orientation. Is it necessary? For young people, this entertainment can be approached, but this is a toy that should not be overestimated, it will not turn into a DJ with it, although it is possible to form an idea about it. Unlike older IDOL, there are no separate equalizers and sound control is implemented poorer. And the device sounds easier, the sound is worse.

Also there is a corporate screen with various news, exchange rates and applications, you can customize it at your discretion.
