Design and usability
In Mi Note continued to develop the design ideas laid in the Xiaomi Mi4. The main materials of the case are metal and glass. In the usual version of the smartphone, the back cover is made of curved glass, you can see it in the official photos below. There are versions of two colors-white and black, and later pink (female) should appear. Traditionally for Xiaomi, initially a white version appears on the market, and other colors have to wait a long time.
But for the review we decided to take the most interesting, bamboo Mi Note. In this version, the back cover glass was replaced with natural bamboo. In this design, the smartphone immediately stands out from itself similar, because by and large, today it is difficult to surprise someone with metal or glass, they are almost in all flagships.
In addition, most smartphones with glass backs are relatively slippery, another thing is bamboo. It's not as snug as a soft-touch plastic, it's more like a plastic. A separate question is how the material will behave over time, but for two weeks of careful use with the test Mi Note nothing happened.
The size of the smartphone is standard for models with a screen diagonal of 5.7 inches. It is slightly larger than the Meizu M1 Note, but the difference in width and height is almost imperceptible, in contrast to the thickness (7 mm). Compared to Xiaomi Mi4, the thickness difference is almost two millimeters. The result for today is not a record, but the smartphone feels thin.
The rounded edges of the lid add convenience, but larger sizes still feel, coping with Mi Note with one hand not everyone can.
The location of the controls is familiar. The keys for turning on and adjusting the volume are on the right, the power button is exactly under the thumb. The keys have a clear average move, it is convenient to use. From the top there is a headset connector and a second microphone hole, in the left corner of the bottom face was placed microUSB, in the center there is a wide grid of a single speaker.
The placement of the speaker is good. When the smartphone is lying on a table or in your pocket, the sound does not muffle, because of the wide grid, the speaker is hard to completely cover with your hand when you hold the smartphone horizontally (while watching video or games). The speaker itself is of high quality - it plays loudly, cleanly and with a hint of volume. The calling speaker is also good, with an average volume reserve.
On the front panel there is a familiar logo Mi, three touch keys with backlight, a camera, a set of sensors and a light indicator.
Settings allow you to set the backlight time for the touch buttons or leave it always working.
The light indicator can glow with several colors - this is also configurable, for different events you can choose a color by regular means.
Another positive point is the slightly rounded edges of the protective glass of the screen. Thanks to them, copying from the edges of the screen is much more convenient, this gesture is often used in Android-applications.
The quality of the assembly should be praised - the parts are well-fitted, a neat chamfer is made on the metal frame, and the tray for two SIM cards (Micro and Nano) fits perfectly in its place. The back cover in our smartphone in some places barely noticeably bent - to achieve this effect and notice it can be through time, it does not cause inconvenience in use. Overall, the new Xiaomi Mi Note looks great. Its role in this is played by a bamboo lid.
Display
The smartphone received an IPS display of 5.7 inches with FullHD resolution. It covers the protective glass Gorilla Glass of the third generation with slightly rounded edges.
The range of brightness adjustment is excellent: from 6 to 459 cd / m2 - this is enough for comfortable use, both in the dark and in bright sun. The measured contrast is 1: 902.
The screen is well calibrated, the color rendition is natural, the colors are saturated, and the viewing angles are maximum. In the settings, you can change the contrast and color temperature of the image.
There is also a special reading mode, which reduces the amount of blue components in the image. When you turn it on, the picture becomes yellow-green, but with prolonged reading, your eyes get tired less. The intensity of this mode can be configured, turned on globally or only for some applications.
Display Xiaomi Mi Note leaves a pleasant impression, it corresponds to the level of flagships. It is possible to find fault only to the olephobic coating, which caused mixed emotions. After long use on the screen there are prints that are safely removed in the pocket. If you get the smartphone after half an hour, the glass will be clean.
Operating system and shell
The smartphone is running the sixth version of MIUI, based on Android 4.4.4 KitKat. In comparison with previous versions of the firmware, there are at least a minimum of changes, most of them are visual - applications and icons are re-compressed in a flat style.
Calls, multimedia
Xiaomi Mi Note - one of the few flagships with support for two SIM cards. The radio module in the smartphone is one, and the logic of the sims does not differ from other phones.
There is a separate sound chip, so the quality of music playback is at least as good as other flagships. A nice musical feature of Xiaomi smartphones is the support of any three-button set. On some machines, they work out of the box, and then you can be sure that any headphones "zavedutsya" - additional keys are configured.
Working hours
The capacity of the built-in battery is 3000 mAh. It is enough for a day of work in the active mode or for a day and a half at medium loads. The result is standard for modern smartphones, although there are long-lived fiblets.
Cameras
The main camera Xiaomi Mi Note has a resolution of 13 megapixels, is equipped with a two-color flash and an optical stabilization system. Since the device entered the market recently, the image processing algorithms are still damp and at the time of the review the camera is inferior to other flagships.
When shooting close objects, there are no problems, but the landscape photos succeed once, autofocus can be set to the middle position, because of which the sharpness will suffer.
Shooting at night, too, does not stand up to criticism. This is the usual situation for Xiaomi - the device is brought to mind after it goes on sale.
To the front camera with a resolution of 4 megapixel, there are no questions - it is already shooting well, and will appeal to fans of the genre of Selfie.
